December 2014

Guest request to post comment - Mahalo Nui!

Our family stayed in Puu Poa #306 at the end of December 2014.  From the time we pulled into the parking lot, we were very impressed with the beautiful surroundings and condition of the property.  The entire Princeville area is immaculate.

My hat’s off to the designer of Puu Poa.  This is a very well designed and constructed property.  Being concrete, there is little or no sound transfer between units.  We never heard our neighbors on any side.  We also never heard roosters, and if you’ve been to Kauai before, you know this is a big plus, as you will be able to sleep uninterrupted.

When we got inside, we were blown away.  The unit is so very clean and well maintained.  It is obvious the owners take pride in this property and keep it in tip-top shape.  It is not the typical vacation rental property run by a property management company.

The layout is very open, which allows the cool sea breeze to flow through.  There are sliding doors between the master bedroom and pool room which add to the open feel.  There are high quality ceiling fans in every room.  Fans are all functional and well-balanced, so no swaying and rattling.

The living room has a good sized TV with surround sound and an extensive DVD library – movies for just about anyone.  If you follow the instructions sitting right next to the TV, you should have no trouble using the system.  There are also a number of good books available.  I found one on the history of Kauai and one on Captain Cook to be quite interesting.

Kitchen/dining area is well appointed with lots of utensils and high quality appliances, including a convection oven and large refrigerator.  You can find supplies for a picnic as well.

The master bedroom has a very comfortable king bed, TV and plenty of storage space.  Master bath is plenty large and includes a walk-in open shower and two sinks.  Guest bedroom is also quite large and has a TV as well.  Guest bathroom is large and includes full-sized washer and dryer.

The lanai has a storage closet with boogie boards, umbrellas, coolers, etc.  There is a gas grill for cooking out.  The grill is starting to show its age and may need to be replaced in the near future (note from owner – grill is schedule for replacement next quarter).  We enjoyed sitting on the lanai and watching whales, a cruise ship, surfers, etc.

Everything is provided for your stay; even down to butane grill starters and spare batteries for the flashlights.

While at Puu Poa, we toured another unit that was for sale on the ground level.  There was no comparison between #306 and the other unit.  #306 was in far better condition and had much better appointments.

There is a nice tennis court and pool on site that are for Puu Poa guests only.  A very steep trail (accessed from the public road in front) leads down to Hideaway Beach, where we saw two monk seals.  Be careful of the rough surf and strong currents in winter months.  Having said this, the water was calm enough to snorkel on a couple of days, and we saw a variety of fish.  In summer months, this is probably a great place to snorkel.

There is a Foodland and several restaurants in the nearby Princeville shopping center.  Be prepared to spend some time if you choose to venture over to Hanalei, as the lines and waits at most eating establishments were quite long (Christmas week?).

Puu Poa is adjacent to the Princeville St. Regis resort.  It is a short walk down to the beach and Hanalei Bay.  The resort is quite nice and well worth a walk through.

I highly recommend you consider this unit when looking at Princeville area accommodations!

This place is unbelievable. It is so nice we hardly want to touch anything. Your pictures and descriptions don’t even do it justice. Please let us know what we can do for you by way of posting reviews on any/all sites on which you have listings. I will be happy to do so. I rent vacation homes and condos all over and this is definitely one of the nicer ones we have seen. Thanks for putting such personal attention to every detail.

Aloha! We had a great time at your place!!! Photos attached are just a quick sampling. The guy with the fire was a definite treat after dinner at Scotty’s. They were having some training class for Photoshop at the Hilton and along the beach there, they set up a photo shoot. We got to take a few shots too. We really enjoyed the pool/ping pong table and the aquarium. With all the rainy days we had, they provided a lot of fun. Video, CD’s and books all were used as well. Really enjoyed the Izzy collection. The “Proposal” happened on Sunday at the big tree over on the rocks near the St. Regis Princeville Resort…What fun young love is! I am glad we were here and were a part of the celebration. There is not a better place than Kauai! Mahalo!

Our two weeks here flew by – we really enjoyed staying here in your condo. We’ve stayed in another unit here which we thought was great, but yours is definitely supreme. We enjoyed having all the electronics & the pool table.

Condo is great Great view, great supplies, great furnishings, great location – no so great beds (note from owner – beds have been updated). Try the zipline at Back Country – it was great fun and the people are nice. Tubing was fun too. the grocery store at Princeville is the best & there is a Post Office nearby. Check out the snorkeling just below the condo. We found it to be the best, but the climb down & back is tough. Do you want to swim with the turtles? An old grizzled local with walnut-colored skin said, “snorkel beyond the reef – best done at high tide – and there, out beyond where most swimmers go, are all sorts of sea turtles.” We found it to be true (but be careful)! Parking can be a problem at this beautiful beach – a four wheel drive may come in handy. Not much can rival the sunsets from the lanai or the sound of the ocean first thing in the morning with a cup of Kauai Coffee Company Coffee – look it up – you can’t get this coffee anywhere else. Really enjoyed this great condo and all the amenities. Food in our condo was the best – steak, pork chops, chicken, fish, shish kabobs, drinks, snacks & more. Cost was great and no waiter to put a “finger” in our food. Hard to leave. I will do it again when I have more money! Mahalo!

Word, SHAKA! My wife and sons want to move here, into this unit! What a great condo. It has everything you could ask for. Thanks for sharing this place with us. The views, whales and dolphin sightings were always exciting. Best Restaurant – Zelos – fish taco and any of the deserts are great. Must Do’s – Waimea Canyon, Hike up the Na Pali from Ke’e, Queen’s Bath (at low tide – check tide tables in Yellow Pages), Hideaways Beach (turtles, moray eels, lobsters and a lot of colorful fish) Mahalo!

Honeymooners

Our honeymoon was absolutely amazing and wouldn’t have been the same without such a lovely “home-away-from-home.” We were so fortunate to have stayed at one of the best spots on the island – the views took our breath away. Thank you so much!!
